El hijo del difunto líder libio Muammar Gaddafi tiene claro su presencia como candidato a la presidencia en las elecciones del país en 2018. Por ello Saif al-Islam Gaddafi ha preparado una plataforma y anunciará sus planes para postularse pronto.
El segundo hijo mayor del ex líder fue visto por algunos como un posible sucesor reformista de su padre en los años previos al 2011 y sigue siendo una figura clave para los partidarios de Gaddafi.
Saif es el único que puede ayudar a reconciliar las facciones rivales del país. Su plataforma incluye algunos procedimientos que espera que adopten las Naciones Unidas para ayudar a Libia a pasar del período de transición a la estabilidad, por cuanto que conoce muy bien el país, tiene experiencia y sobre todo tiene claro que la violencia no es la solución y que hay que asegurar que el país sea un referente de paz y de prosperidad económica.
El programa que planea lo hace con la idea de imponer más seguridad y estabilidad de acuerdo con la geografía libia y en coordinación con todas las facciones, respetando a todas y cada una de ellas.
El heredero de Gadafi tiene puestos los ojos en estos comicios, reuniéndose a diario con líderes tribales para elaborar una lista electoral, en un intento de recuperar su fama de líder aperturista de antes de la guerra. "Hay consenso general para apoyar a Saif al Islam como candidato a las presidenciales. Es la figura más importante capaz de tener éxito en esas elecciones y gestionar el país", ha dicho Ashraf Abdel Fattah, miembro del Consejo Supremo de las Tribus Libias, al canal de televisión Al Arabiya. "Muchos le ven como la única solución para salvar Libia de su caótica situación y unir filas para luchar contra el terrorismo", añadió.
